Throwing Out The Noun and Verb

When all you have is a hammer everything looks like a nail

For a guy who once advised John Kerry to lay off the Vietnam references lest they be used against him McCain sure has changed his tune as of late.

Take his housing gaffe. It has absolutely nothing to do with the fact John McCain was a prisoner of war. Nothing. Does that stop the POW “get out of jail free” card? Of course not.

During a recent CBS interview with Katie Couric she asked about his response to the infamous house(s) question. His response? POW.

“I am grateful for the fact that I have a wonderful life,” McCain said. “I spent some years without a kitchen table, without a chair, and I know what it’s like to be blessed by the opportunities of this great nation.

The response goes on a bit longer but really, that’s about it. His first response to the question wasn’t “I was flustered”, “they’re my wives houses”, or even a simple honest answer. No, it was to play the POW card.

McCain’s attempts to use his horrific experiences as a shield against any and all political attacks cheapens the memory of not only his own experiences but those of every service member who’s ever been a prisoner of war.

So if this is McCain’s idea of “underusing” his POW status I say bring it on. Let the world see the tarnished warrior you’ve become.
